About

The 2019 GESSS-Q GeoBakeOff was so fantastic, we decided to bring it back this year! The original concept was inspired by the ANU RSES BakeYourPhD and the Geological Society of London’s GeoBakeOff.

Katharina Halbmayer was one of the recipients of the Polka Dot apron (most geologically accurate bake) at the Geological Society @geolsoc #geobakeoff 2019 for her amazing carbon mineral cupcakes.

Tips for success

  • Think about the overarching concepts and ideas in your research, can you make an analogy of them with food?

  • All food is accepted; cakes, biscuits, pies, breads, savoury or sweet, etc.

Guidelines:

  • Baking can be sweet or savoury

  • Baking will be judged on how well it represents the research, the overall presentation and creativity factor

  • Baked goods are to be photographed with #VirtualGESSSQ included in the image and sent through either via email or our Facebook page

  • The photo should be accompanied by a brief outline (e.g., title, abstract, diagram) of how the baking represents the research and a list of ingredients

  • Bake-Off is open to all Earth Science students and recent graduates

  • Participants must be registered to attend GESSS-Q 2020, click here to find out more about registration.

The competition opens 25th September and closes 11th October. The winner will be announced after the symposium!
